Assignment One

I painted this piece intuitively and creatively with an idea I had envisioned in my head about how I wanted this painting to look. The visual representations are symbolic to Blackfoot culture with elements of pictographic imagery, some symbols are recognizable, for others, are not. I am a bit familiar with some of the imagery involved such as the buffalo prints representing the Blackfoot, my handprint representing myself and my identity, the sun symbol which I often depict in a few of my artworks and the six dots which represent the Six Grandfathers. The colors are heavily inspired by Indigenous representation, specifically through a Blackfoot perspective. The painting is untitled, left to be interpreted through the viewer's eye, while keeping a simple Blackfoot aesthetic that feels familiar to those who want to understand it.

 Acrylic on canvas, 10" x 10" cm.
